STAGE I (Drift Basics)($730.40) |
Mustang 8.8 Rear End Stud Girdle
| UPR Products
| $99.99
| When adding the mini-spool to the rear axles I want to strengthen the differential and put new on a new gasket, new bolts, and a new differential cover.
|
Open Carrier & Spool
| Mid-Atlantic 4x4 Speed
| $480 | Need the rear axle locked to drift. |
Mustang Billet Oil Catch Can
| UPR Products
| $99.99
| Prevents blow by.
|
Performance Steering Wheel With Lock Out Hub | Summit Racing Summit Racing Summit Racing Summit Racing | $250.40 (with hardware) | More for security than anything but it would be nice to have a racing wheel. |
Corbeau Forza, Fixed Back Seat (Only One), Blue
| Corbeau
| $476.80 (with hardware)
| The stock seats not only weigh considerably more they offer no support for my large 200+ pound body when the car is being thrown violently from side to side. After a day of racing in the stock seats my entire body is exhausted from flexing while bracing myself on the door and console.
|
STAGE II (Maintenance)($359.97) |
Brake Line Kit, Stainless Steel | Latemodel Restoration | $149.99 | My brake lines are on their last leg. Most are rusting away and damaged. It’s amazing that the car still stops. LOL. |
Adjustable Proportioning Valve | Latemodel Restoration | $49.99 | This will allow me to adjust the brake bias. For the street it should be something like 60/40 but at the track more like 80/20 or more to keep from slowing the rear wheel spin during drift. |
Fuel Line Kit, Stainless Steel | Latemodel Restoration | $159.99 | The metal fuel line near the engine was bent and broken. I made a temporary repair with some rubber hose and some hose clamps but this needs a more permanent fix. |
STAGE III (Chassis & Safety)(~$1,502.27) |
Chassis Brace Package (Full Length) | Maximum Motorsports | $352.32 | The Mustang chassis flexes a lot. This takes care of some of it without adding a roll cage. |
Welded 8 Point Roll Cage | Mid Atlantic 4 x 4 Speed | $300.00 | Necessary for tandem runs + stiffens the chassis + protect my investments and me. |
5 Point Safety Harness (Only One) | Maximum Motorsports | $149.95 | I’ve got the racing seat and a roll cage so now I can add better seat belts. |
STAGE IV (Rear Suspension)($2,363.53) |
Mustang Heavy Duty Upper/Lower Torque Box Kit | UPR Products | $89.99 | With all of the stresses associated with drifting that the Mustang was not designed to deal with this reinforcement will insure the rear end does not tear the weak OEM sheet metal and shear away from the vehicle. |
Torque Arm Package (Torque Arm, Panhard Bar, Non Adjustable Rear Lower Control Arms) | Maximum Motorsports | $987.74 | The OEM design of the rear suspension allows it to move and flex considerably (up to 2” in each direction). The torque arm ensures that the axle stays put from front to rear, the panhard bar keeps it put from side to side, the lower control arms simply need refreshed after 20+ years of use, and the upper control arms can be removed. |
Urethane Bushing Kit For Heavy Duty Rear Lower Control Arms | Maximum Motorsports | $38.95 | Rubber flexes too much, urethane is more solid but provides a harsher ride. I don’t mind one bit. |
Racing Rear Upper Shock Mount (Bilstein) | Maximum Motorsports | $199.00 | This helps the shocks perform as best as they can. When converting to coil-overs I want to make sure I can get as much performance out of them as I can. |
Rear Coil-Over Kit With Springs For Bilstein Shocks | Maximum Motorsports | $449.00 | A coil-over conversion provides the combination of incredible handling and great ride quality that one expects from a world-class performance car. Coil-over conversion kits eliminate the conventional stock springs that are located on the control arms, and replace them with compact, lightweight springs that fit over the struts and shocks. This is the optimum spring location for reducing suspension bind and unsprung weight. It provides completely free suspension movement with a drastic reduction in impact harshness. |
Bilstein HD series Damper Package | Maximum Motorsports | $598.85 | New shocks and struts are necessary with the new spring rates of coil overs. I’m getting the front and rear ones together to save money although I will not be adding the fronts to the vehicle until later. |
STAGE V (Front Suspension)($2,370.26) |
Manual Rack & Pinion Kit (Standard Ratio 20:1) (Part #: FR1890) | Flaming River | $499.00 | Lose 30+ pounds off the front end, quicker steering response, less drag on serpentine belt, better road feel, and no whine! |
K-Member Package (K-Member, Offset Control Arms, Coil-Over Conversion Kit, Aluminum Steering Rack Bushings, Caster/Camber Plates, Adjustable Tie-Rod Ends, 2 Point K-Member Brace, Urethane Swaybar Bushings, Swaybar End Links, & Front Swaybar Relocation Kit) | Maximum Motorsports | $1,871.26 | Lose 50+ pounds off the front end, more steering angle, wider track width, and better handling. |
STAGE VI (5 Lug + Rims & Tires)($2,877.99) |
Conversion Kit (Front & Rear 5 Lug Conversion + Rear Disc Brake Conversion) | Latemodel Restoration | $1,139.99 | This will give me almost unlimited wheel options enabling me to use better tires as well. With 4 lugs I have very few wheel options and limited tires to choose from and the selection is dwindling every day. |
ENKEI Racing Series RPF1 (17x9/17x9.5) + Wheel Center Caps | Tire Rack | $1,120.00 | Wide tires in front, wider in the rear = better handling and more grip. |
FALKEN FK 452 245/35/17 | Discount Tire Direct | $304.00 | Wide tire with low profile = great grip and handling. |
FALKEN AZENIS RT-615 275/40/17 | Discount Tire Direct | $314.00 | WIDER tire, low profile, made for drifting and competition! |
STAGE VII (I Don’t Have Tha Powa Captain)(~$6,309.92)(~360hp/350tq NA @ 9.5:1) |
Engine Kit (Cylinder Heads, Intake Manifold, Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, Roller Rocker Arms, Pushrods, Roller Timing Chain, Gasket Kit, Valve Covers, & Billet Oil Fill Kit) | Latemodel Restoration | $2,499.99 | I’m going to need more power by now especially to overpower the wide sticky tires and to give me some good smoke! Hopefully after spending this much money I will be competing with some semi-pro people that have highly tuned engines and I will need the power to keep up in tandems. |
Overbore Cylinders to 306cid | ? | ~$1,000 | Overbore = more displacement |
Mass Air Computer (1998-1993) | Latemodel Restoration | $239.99 | Need new computer to handle the mass air unit. |
Mass Air Conversion Harness | Latemodel Restoration | $49.99 | Need the wires for the mass air unit. |
Throttle Body/Spacer Kit (75mm) | Latemodel Restoration | $269.99 | The engine is going to need more air and rapidly. Plus better throttle response. |
Mass Air Meter Kit (76mm) | Latemodel Restoration | $199.99 | Mass air unit for better control. |
Fuel Injectors (36lb) | Latemodel Restoration | $309.99 | The engine is going to need more fuel. |
Fuel System Kit (Fuel Tank, Electric Fuel Pump 190 lph, Regulator & Filter, Fuel Rails, Bypass Regulator, Y-block Supply, Braided Lines) | Latemodel Restoration | $1,699.99 | Need more powerful stuff to move the fuel and need new tank. My gas gauge is not working correctly. It only works on the 4th gallon in the tank. |
Fuel Tank Sump | Latemodel Restoration | $39.99 | This will guarantee that with all the side to side, back and forth, of drifting I will always have fuel available in the sump and not on the opposite side of the fuel sending unit. |
